I Had A Professional Photoshoot and 3 Tips To Make The Process Easier

A few weeks back I decided that I needed some more professional images of myself for my website and socials, rather than the selfie ones I’ve been taking with my phone.

In stepped Tasha from Tasha Parks Photography, who was recommended to me by another artist

Though I was nervous about having my picture taken, Tasha instantly put me at ease and we had a wonderful hour session, telling dad jokes (right up my street) and chatting all while I had my face snapped. I got a load of great photos and here are just a few of my favourites

Thinking Of Getting A Photoshoot Too?

The thought of it can be a little bit scary so here are 3 tips that may put you at ease

1 - Ask For Recommendations

Knowing who to ask to take your photos can be tricky. So ask your fellow artist friends for recommendations and look at the photos they had taken. Do you like them? Do you think they would work with your style? If it’s a yes then get in touch with them

2 - Wear Something You’re Comfortable In

I guess this one really depends on what you want the photos for. For me it was for my website and socials, so I wanted them to reflect me and my personality.

I wore something that I felt comfortable in. I love red, I feel confident in red, so I wore red.

I didn’t cover my tattoos or piercings as they are part of me and my personality.

Now red, tattoos and piercings may not be suitable if you’re after more corporate looking shots, but it worked for me and put me at ease.

I’m also bit of a fiddler when I’m nervous so I also wore my Money Tree Necklace, which I often play with. But I notice after a few minutes I ignored it and felt relaxed

3 - Location, Location, Location

Again this depends on where you will be using the photos. More corporate shots may be best against plain backgrounds, but this will be discussed with your photographer.

For me, as an artist, I wanted them taken in my studio. I will admit I did do a massive clean up. People really don’t need to see all the mess, I’ll keep that for my behind the scenes Instagram stories thank you very much :-)

I chose some Lino Prints to have on display and my working tools on show, just enough to give you a sense of my working space, and if you decide to come and have a workshop with me, you get to see where it will take place

Anything Else You Should Consider?

Factoring in the cost

One of the reasons why I hadn’t done this before now was simply I couldn’t afford too. Photographers need to pay their bills too and you’re also paying for their expertise, so you may need to save up, like I did, and hire them when you can.

Go DIY

For years I’ve played around with using my phone, and there’s nothing wrong in doing that. It does take a little bit of practice but you can get great shots yourself. So until you can factor in an professional into your budget, going DIY is perfectly fine

I Hope You Found These Useful…

and helped to put you at ease and make you go ahead and book yourself in with a photographer

Keep on scrolling to look at more photos and for Tasha’s website. I definitely recommend her for all your headshots :-)
